Dîner en Blanc comes to Asia for the first time!!!

Hi Huneybees,

Dîner en Blanc - the worldʼs first viral event, a très chic picnic imported from Paris which has taken hold of outdoor public spaces in 20 cities across 5 continents in 2012, from Barcelona to New York City, from Montreal to Sydney, is coming to the capital of Asia, Singapore!

Yes! We are the first Asian city to host Dîner en Blanc!! ヽ(^。^)ノ

No other pop-up event launched anywhere has managed to create interest worldwide by reaching out to culinary enthusiasts anxious to recreate the concept in their city and assemble them into one network.

How does it work?

At the last minute, the location is given to thousands of friends and acquaintances who have been patiently waiting to learn the “Dîner en Blanc's” secret place. Thousand of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a
mass “chic picnic” in a public space.

Over the course of the evening, the diners enhance the function and value of their city's public space by participating in the unexpected.

Beyond the spectacle and refined elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by a love of beauty and good taste. Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event.

There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic, except for the occasional amazed and astonished looks from passers-by at the scene unfolding before them. And we, as they, wonder whether it's all not a dream.

The Birth of White

Launched with just a handful of friends by François Pasquier some 24 years ago in Paris, Dîner en Blanc now assembles nearly 15,000 people each year around the globe.

The swank supper first sprang to life in 1988 in Paris, when after a few years abroad, François Pasquier held a dinner party to reconnect with friends. To deal with a mounting guest list, he asked attendees to convene at the Bois de Boulogne dressed in white so they could all find each other. What started with simple word-of-mouth—friends inviting friends—today has as many as 15,000 white-clad guests meeting annually in the public spaces of major cities worldwide.

The French capital's most prestigious sites have previously played host to it: the Pont des Arts, the Eiffel Tower site, the Louvre Pyramid, the Trocadéro Esplanade, Place Vendôme, the Château de Versailles, the Esplanade de Notre- Dame, the Esplanade des Invalides, the periphery of the Place de l'Étoile, the Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde and last year: The Carousel du Louvre. The Paris police tend to tolerate this ‘wild' gathering, if not perhaps even wishing they could join in!

For the Singapore stop, 2 Privileged "Friends" has pulled in some surprises too...

The Worldʼs Strongest Bank (ranked by Bloomberg Markets) OCBC Bank has a share in creating history too! Traditionally, the hosts of Dîner en Blanc have kept the venue a “mystery” until the last minute, by offering guests the option of selecting Coach Bus Departure Points, Public Transport Departure Points or Pedestrian Departure Points. For the first time in Dîner en Blancʼs 24-year history, there will be 2 Departure Points named after a participating partner - OCBC Bank. This concept (exclusive to the Singapore installment of Dîner en Blanc) is made possible only because of the good folks at OCBC Bank!

World-renown champagne-maker Perrier-Jouët has also joined in the revelry to offer 2 complimentary historic flutes for every bottle purchased by diners online at a special price (so special, it cannot be revealed!). Diners can get to choose from a selection of 2 red wines and 2 white wines by Wyndham Estate and Graffigna (exclusively offered by Pernod Ricard - the worldʼs co-leader in wines and spirits). It is definitely our honour to have two of the worldʼs greatest brands as “friends” of this spectacular inaugural party for Singapore - a once-in-a-lifetime experience where “friends” is the word of the evening, the essence of the celebration.

So now, are you ready for le pique-nique on 30 August?

[Movie Review] The Amazing Spider-man

Hi Huneybees,

Yes, as you have read from my teaser yesterday, I've watched The Amazing Spider-man already and I'm loving every part of it! Even though the previos 3 movies had James Franco, the 4th Spider-man movie is well rebooted and it left me "swinging" out of the cinema.

The Amazing Spider-Man, a complete re-imagining of the Spider-Man film univese, goes back to the origins of Spider-Man as he uncovers a secret about his parents and battles with The Lizard. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
The movie is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Toby Maguire’s successor in the Spider-Man suit is the British actor, Andrew Garfield, who had just appeared in The Social Network when director, Marc Webb picked him from hundreds of actors who auditioned for the role.

The scholarly and well-spoken Garfield, who was born in America but brought up in England by an American father and English mother, could hardly be more different from Maguire in attitude, upbringing and demeanour; but he has the physical attributes and enthusiasm, plus a solid theatrical background.
“The character has meant so much to me as a boy, as a teenager and as an adult, so I was overwhelmed with the idea of playing someone I cared deeply about. I adored the previous Spider-Man movies but this one is different, otherwise it wouldn’t have been made. We obviously needed to bring something new and fresh and tell the story in a different way.” -- Andrew Garfield
You have got to watch the movie in 3D! I mean it was shot in 3D why waste it right? The angles, the perspectives were some untackled before in film making and my experience of watching the movie in an IMAX theatre woke me up from my sleepy mode, got me sitting on the edge of my seat and like I said above, left me wanting to swing from buiding to building.

I was a little skeptical before I step into the movie. I mean, we know how Peter Parker became Spiderman, Uncle Ben dies, etc, etc. But there is this uncanny story telling that draws me to the screen and especially the action scenes were something you don't want to even blink!

Another thing that made me stay glued to the screen was the flawless and gorgeous Revlon ambassador, Emma Stone. She glowed in the movie and unlike Mary Jane, played by Kristen Dunst, she was just the sweet, next-door-neighbour kind of girl. She didn't need red hair or super screams to draw attention, she simply just shone with her natural beauty.

I must say she's a great actress but very little was focussed on her and I think most of the attention was already sucked away by Spider-man and The Lizard.

This is definitely a 4 out of 5 popcorns movie.
Go watch it when it opens on the 29th June 2012 and don't leave the cinema till the lights come on... *hint hint*

Are you ready for a Spidey?

Hi Huneybees,

After six months of shooting, mainly at Sony’s Los Angeles studios with 3 weeks on the streets of New York, The Amazing Spider-Man, filmed in 3D and festooned with special effects, is ready for release.

The Amazing Spider-man is a reboot of the 3 prior Spider-man movies and it stars Andrew Garfield as Spider-man and the gorgeous Emma Stone as Spider-man's first love, Gwen Stacey.

As you could have seen on my Twitter, I have already caught the movie before everyone else.
Wana know what I think of the movie? How many popcorns would I rate it?
Stay tuned to my movie review! :)

Paul Smith The Multi-Stripe MINI Exhibition

Hi Huneybees,

It's 2am and I was in town with the girls, Peiyun & Valentine watching Mirror, Mirror. I didn't want to go home and since I've been dying to catch a glimpse of the Paul Smith Mini Cooper S, Valentine and me walked over to Hilton Hotel to check it out.

The car was originally designed as part of the Great Brits minis. The 86 striped, 24 colour car appeared at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, and inspired a run of limited edition minis. The Mini Cooper S was made famous by the movie "The Italian Job", where the actors drove the car to hide stealthily in alleys and escape chasers.

This is the Mini Cooper that's inspired and printed on many Paul Smith bags and wallets like the ones below...

The exterior of the car is painted with the signature Paul Smith Multi-Stripe. The attention to detail continues on the inside with a lime green lined boot and glove compartment and instrument gauges made by a company called Smith, changed the engraving to read ‘Paul Smith’.

The headights are aready extinct! I'm looking at a piece of history!

The mini has been on many adventures including a tour of the US traveling to San Francisco, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon and finally ending up in Los Angeles. The car also attended the 10th Anniversary for the opening of the Dubai store in the Middle East in 2011. And in 2012, the Paul Smith Limited Edition MINI embarks on its first tour of Asia.

All Paul Smith and Mini Cooper fanatics, come on down to Hilton Hotel to catch a glimpse of  the Paul Smith Mini Cooper!
