Hi Huneybees,

It's August already and last week marks the end of the SHINE Youth Festival. It has been a great month and there was plenty of events during the whole of July. At the festival closing, Mr Chan Chun Sing (Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports / Chairman of National Youth Council) drew time out to address the event before rushing to the airport for London Olympics 2012.

Do you like the all new NYC logo?

The conference began with a prize giving to those who participated in the Panasonic & OMY's SHINE Photo & Video Competition as well as presentation in appreciation for all participating partners and media.

Daniel Ong was the host for the night.

Smile! This is a candid shot! Everyone so "cereal".

Excited students seeing their teacher and classmate on stage.
Juz-B performed their infamous acapella number.
And there was a talk show interview with the representative of Glee Studios.

The SHINE Advocates spoke about the Pledge to SHINE and below Justine Lee, the Stars of SHINE 2011 awardee shared his experience since being awarded last year. He was the guy behind Sole Apparels and living by his motto  lives by the personal motto – “Find a need and meet it. Find a hurt and heal it”, he established the company with a vision to provide a “sole for every soul”. Their concept of “Buy One, Give One” donates a pair of shoes to a needy child in China, for every pair of footwear sold.

Justine awarded the Favourite Stars of SHINE, Choo Pei Ling.

Then, it was time for the Stars of SHINE 2012 Awardees and SHINE Favourite Nominees to take the stage. Not only did they dared to dream, they also pursued their aspirations that led to action for the community.

As everyday heroes who stepped forward to touch the lives of others and make a difference, Colin Wan pursued his passion for yo-yo by forming Spinworkx to reach out to other youthes; Jonathan Ng battled kidney failure and numerous adversities to become a health advocate and community leader; and Sarethkumar Kunasilan overcame the loss of his father at the age of 15 to bag various academic awards and inspire other youths as a volunteer mentor.

The closing festival ended with a group photo with Mr Chan Chun Sing

SHINE Youth Festival 2011 Media Conference

Hi Huneybees,

SHINE Youth Festival is back this year and it's taking over the whole of July! I was at the media conference last week and I'm here to share the news with you guys.

For those who are wondering if SHINE is some new Korean band, you are wrong. SHINE Youth Festival have been around since 2005 and is a platform for youths between 15-35 years old to indulge in their passion. The initiative celebrates youths' creativity and dynamism and encourages them to use SHINE Youth Festival as a stage to "show-off" their talents.

It is organised by the National Youth Council and steered by a committee made up of representatives from youth organisations and executed by a Youth Organising Committee consisting of volunteers. More information can be found at http://www.shine.nyc.sg/.

This year, their slogan is "Enough Talk, Just Do". Being bigger and bolder this year, SHINE is set to encourage 250,000 youths to "Just Do" what you dream, indulge in their passion. demonstrate their energy and grow their skills and talents.

Annabelle Francis was the host for the conference and she kicked off the event having Mr. Martin Tan (Chairperson of Shine Youth Festival) and Mr.Eric Chua (Co-Chairperson of SHINE 2011 Organizing Committee) on stage to reveal the latest detail about how Shine Youth Festival going to celebrate in town this year and it will be opening on the 2nd July, Saturday at *Scape.

At the opening, there will be a star studded show with local acts like Derrick Hoh, Tay Kewei, JuzB, Jack and Rai at the night concert to inspire the youths to follow their passions. We at the media conference, were "treated to a performance by JuzB and The Roses as appetizers for what to expect at the opening.
